UPDATE: RXCSF Youth Skiing Weekend Plans
SAT 22JAN11
All Skiers (J2/J3 Team/Sport/Rec):Session at Mendon Ponds Park North Meadow from 10:00 a.m. SHARPto 11:30 a.m. Classic technique.
With the new snow expected overnight, the trail conditions at Mendon Ponds Park look to be super this weekend. We anticipate that Denis, the RXCSF Groomer, will have some beautiful classic tracks for us in North Meadow. Temperatures are expected to be chilly (around 10F degrees), but with light winds and partly cloudy skies it should be a great day to ski. Remember to dress in layers and wear balaclavas and lobster mitts as needed.
The coaches plan to include the next level of classic instruction in group-appropriate ski tours; then expect fun, games, and relays to break out! For skiers that will need grip wax assistance, please assure that the grip zones are cleaned of old, soft wax and are ready for a new coat. Please arrive 15-30 minutes before our 10:00 a.m. start time so the Waxmeisters can have everyone ready to go.
SUN 23JAN11
J2/J3 Team: Classic ski at Harriet Hollister Spencer at 10:00 a.m. Two-hour distance ski with some surprises. Dress and wax for COLD.

RXCSF Youth Skiing Weekly Update: 15JAN11

This past weekend, 59 skiers, including 51 from RXCSF Youth Skiing and 8 non-Club members, enjoyed a fabulous Festival at Bristol Mountain Summit Nordic Center. Congratulations to all of the skiers who survived the Survivor Challenge and outwitted, outplayed, and outlasted the competition. Saturday morning featured skate races at J2-J6 levels, plus first-time racing experiences for many Lollipops. Saturday afternoon's competition emphasized teamwork and camaraderie, with skiers divided into five island teams: Sea Breeze, Hawaiian Skivivors, Skiing Pirates, Buccaneers, and Evil Shrieking Parrots. The teams competed against one another treasure hunting for idols, skiing in sprint relays, passing coconuts, and participating in contests to see who could creatively ski/slide under the limbo pole, make jump turns at 90/180/270/360 degree angles, glide on one leg, throw a ball at a monkey, and balance. Classic races were the first order of the day on Sunday morning, followed by a family fun relay where parents and coaches enjoyed racing with and against some of the finest young skiers in the state. The Festival culminated in a family hot dog roast and awards ceremony.
Saturday night's Festival banquet at Steamboat Landing in Canandaigua was attended by 101 skiers and parents who enjoyed a pasta dinner, a beautiful slide show of the day's events, door prizes for all skiers, an awards ceremony which included ribbons and keepsake medals for all participants, and Survivor bingo. A huge thank you goes out to all of the many parents and volunteers who worked tirelessly both behind the scene and on the scene to produce a wonderful weekend that the youth skiers will always treasure. Thanks to Park Ave Bike for providing each registrant with a cool Park Ave Bike water bottle. Steve Howie and the crew at Bristol Mountain graciously opened early each day for the Festival, closed Hale Bop for us, and provided us with a grill for the hot dog barbeque and use of the PA system. SNOW donated four gift cards and Wegmans donated a gift card that was used to purchase all of the Festival snacks and luncheon food.
All Skiers (J2/J3 Team/Sport/Rec): Optional session at Mendon Ponds Park North Meadow from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Skate technique.
